A Cabinet meeting decision on February 10, 2012 exerted
influence to clear down trees in the Kisan Community Forest, Bardiya to settle
down Kamaiyas. The District Forest Office (DFO), has already chopped down 601
trees and intend to cut additional 600 trees as a part of the Kamaiyas
Rehabilitation Program. Local community forest user groups and conservationists
on the other hand, protest about the idea to deforest the place.
