NEWS FROM JAPAN'S BIODIVERSITY YOUTH CONFERENCE!
The Ministry of the Environment of Japan (“MOE”) held an “International Youth Conference on Biodiversity" in Aichi, Japan this past August 2010. It promoted communication among young people from around the world to improve their mutual awareness of biodiversity. The conference is associated with the 10th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (so-called “CBD COP10″) that will be held in Aichi in October 2010. Thanks for the pictures Lemuel!
WELCOME TO THE SPIRIT BEAR COALITION
Simon Jackson, 27, founded the Spirit Bear Youth Coalition at the age of 13 in the quest to unite the voice of young people to save British Columbia’s endangered white Kermode or spirit bear. Through the Youth Coalition, Jackson helped raise international awareness about the plight of the spirit bear – helping make the issue the most supported conservation initiative in Canadian history and having it recognized by Time Magazine as one of the most critical environmental issues facing our planet.
They are now partners to the Youth Accord on Biodiversity. Thanks Chafic!

TWO HEALTHY RING- TAILED LEMURS AT DURRELL WILDLIFE PARK
The very distinctive ring-tailed lemur, with its striking banded tail, is probably the best known species of Madagascan primates because it has been studied for many years. Despite being widely seen in captivity, the ring-tailed lemur is threatened with extinction in Madagascar due to the rapid loss of its habitat.
Ring-tailed lemurs were the first lemurs to be kept at Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust arriving way back in 1964.
Since then a great deal of expertise has been gained with this species and various others, and we continue to make an extremely valuable contribution to lemur knowledge and captive management. Image by Colm Farrington.
