HIDDEN RISK FROM ELECTRICITY ELIMINATED- China

The serious but unseen risk of electricity in Barkor Street of Lhasa city has been eliminated by provision of new electricity meters in each house hold. In order to improve electricity supply in the old town of Lhasa city in Tibet, the central government has invested about 0.36 billion U.S. dollars to provide new household electricity meters.  This will be complete in the total region of Tibet by 2017.

DESTROYING RESERVE FORESTS- India

The reserve forests in different parts of Assam, northern India are being captured by militant groups. Base camps are operated in these areas for various militant activities. This is destroying the trees and vegetation and disturbing the ecosystem.

LAKES IN PERIL- Nepal

Police arrested five poachers with a tiger hide and four tiger teeth from Mandikatar in Kathmandu, central Nepal on Wednesday night. The tiger’s hide was about to be sold for NPR 4, 50,000.

BIRDS INCREASE IN CHITWAN- Nepal

Number of birds has increased by 4,046 in Chitwan, central Nepal as compared to last year. According to the Bird Education Society Chitwan, 14,078 birds were recorded in the district out of which 6, 059 were water birds.  However 3 species were not observed this year.

EXPENSIVE ELECTRICITY IN WATER RICH AREA- Nepal

Despite being the largest industrial corridor of the country, Biratnagar in southeastern Nepal faces shortage of electricity and has been forced to import from India. The actual demand of the eastern region of Nepal is 150MW. Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) imports 80-85 MW electricity from India while the remaining is supplied by generators which cost NPR 35 per unit compared to NPR 8 for electricity supplied by NEA.
