RUN FOR BIODIVERSITY! CANADA

Rain's "4 Biodiversity" Blog
Walk or Run (or Sing) for Biodiversity this fall!

Warm late-summer greetings to all our supporters from the USC Canada team here at 56 Sparks Street in Ottawa!

It's been such an inspiring first half of the year for our Run for Biodiversity fundraising campaigns across Canada.

From Clarenville in Newfoundland, to Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver, our teams of R4B volunteers have been setting all kinds of records.

They've mobilized an amazing total of 245 participants - young and old alike - who have walked, run, skied, snowshoed, cycled and swum for Biodiversity!

Together, they've raised over $25,000 this year to support USC's work with seed-saving farmers in West Africa, Ethiopia, Timor Leste, Nepal and Canada.

Run For Biodiversity in October – Victoria & Toronto, CANADA

A Healthy Way to Support Farmers in Honduras!
DON'T DELAY, Victoria race registration fees go up July 15

Are you a Runner or a Walker?

Are you looking for a way to have some healthy fun with family or friends, and make a contribution to a cause you believe in? We just finished a very successful Run for Biodiversity (R4B) campaign in Ottawa and Calgary – and a very big thank you goes out to our 55 volunteers who ran or walked for USC Canada and helped raise over $11,500 in support of farmers in Nepal!

This October, we're expanding the R4B campaign to include the following races:

Victoria Marathon, Oct 7: includes marathon, half-marathon, 8km, kids run/marathon.
  • Toronto Waterfront Marathon, Oct 14: includes marathon, half-marathon, 5km.

We're hoping to raise over $15,000 to support USC’s work with seed-saving farmers in remote regions of the Central American country of Honduras. If you or anyone you know would like to participate as a runner or a walker, please send an email to David Rain at R4B@usc-canada.org, and we’ll send you the registration details.

Many thanks for joining us in the Run for Biodiversity and please feel free let others know about this too. We're hoping this year's Run will have “legs!”

USC CANADA IN RIO

Reports from Rio+20
The first Earth Summit in Brazil addressed international concerns about the state of the world’s environment. But 20 years later, those issues have evolved and the world is gathering again in Rio this week.

The outcomes of Rio+20 will have major potential impacts on small-holder farmers, and that’s why USC Canada is attending: to help carry their voices and to present examples – from our SoS program – of what their work can accomplish.
We'll be live-tweeting throughout the conference. We’ll also provide reports on our website from the summit over the next week. And you can check out our growing list of resources to get a handle on the basics and learn more about the issues being discussed at Rio+20
