Sand-gravel extraction activities in Churia range of
Bardia, far western Nepal are running against legal criteria, even avoiding
environmental inspection. Such haphazard extraction has created havoc amongst
the local people putting their lives and properties at risk. Locals complain
that the government and community forest groups' are turning a blind eye
towards the issue.
