“Toxic Catch: Japan’s unsustainable and irresponsible whale, dolphin and porpoise hunts”

The London-based Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) will be launching its new report “Toxic Catch: Japan’s unsustainable and irresponsible whale, dolphin and porpoise hunts” with a press conference for all media at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan, in Tokyo, on Thursday, October 31 at 11am local time (2am GMT).

Presented in conjunction with Japanese NGO Elsa Nature Conservancy, the report examines the conservation status of small cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises) targeted in direct hunts in the coastal waters of Japan.

Toxic Catch demonstrates unequivocally the grave scientific concerns regarding the sustainability of catch limits, and documents the Government of Japan’s unscientific and irresponsible management of hunts as well as its failure to adequately warn Japanese consumers of serious related health risks.
