THREAT TO BIRD SPECIES ON RISE- NEPAL



Many bird species of Nepal are facing risk to their habitat due to human activities and extensive use of pesticides. Comparing 2004 assessment (133 threatened species) additional 16 species are considered as nationally threaten among 867 indigenous bird species recorded in Nepal by 2012. The number of critically endangered bird species in Nepal alarmingly increased to 61 by 2010 end. Similarly, ingesting diclofenac while eating the rotting carcass of animals has led to the death of more than two dozen endangered vultures in Sakarpura VDC of Saptari over the last two days.
