In Sindhupalchowk District near China
border, a group of 50 smugglers flee the scene leaving 71 logs (1500 kg) of red
sandalwood, which were being loaded onto trucks, after security personnel
opened fire in retaliation. During the crossfire, one porter was shot dead and
four others were arrested. With the recent leadership change in district
police, it is believed that smugglers are on prowl.
