In last month’s flood, Kaziranga National Park
listed a loss of 625 animals including 19 rhinos. The hog deer was the worst
affected species where carcasses of over 500 hog deer have been reported.
Animals were also killed by speeding vehicles and in some instances they were
fallen prey to poachers while migrating to the highlands of nearby Karbi hills.
